Is Lighter DEX Down? How to Check Status, Incident History and What Happens to Your Funds (2026)

How to check whether Lighter DEX is down right now, where Lighter posts maintenance notices, a dated history of outages and liveness anomalies from October 2025 to October 2026, what a sequencer pause means for open positions and withdrawals, and when the 14-day escape hatch applies.

Lighter DEX outage history: 4.5 hour outage on October 10 2025, 15 minute scheduled upgrade April 5 2026, liveness anomalies of 2 to 4 hours between July and October 2026, no user funds lost
Recorded interruptions (hours). Data as of September 2026, compiled by Lighter DEX Perp.

Lighter perp DEX has no official status page, so here is how to find out in under a minute whether the problem is Lighter or your setup. The sources that matter are Lighter's X account (@Lighter_xyz), the Discord announcements channel, the in-app announcements page, and L2BEAT, which logs every gap in Lighter's state updates and proof submissions. The record so far: one major outage (4.5 hours on October 10, 2025), one scheduled upgrade pause (under 15 minutes on April 5, 2026) and a series of two-to-four-hour liveness anomalies in the second half of 2026. No incident has put user funds at risk, and you will see below exactly why your balance stays safe even when the sequencer stops. Verified October 2026.

How to check if Lighter is down right now

  1. Reload app.lighter.xyz and reconnect your wallet. Most "Lighter is down" moments are a stale WebSocket or an expired session on your side. If the chart updates but orders fail, keep reading.
  2. Check @Lighter_xyz on X. Incidents and maintenance are announced there first, usually within minutes.
  3. Check Discord → announcements. Same notices, plus follow-up detail. Enter Discord only via the link on lighter.xyz. See Lighter DEX support.
  4. Open the in-app Announcements page (app.lighter.xyz/announcements), where scheduled maintenance is posted ahead of time.
  5. Check L2BEAT. The Lighter project page lists "liveness" events: how long since the last batch, state update and proof submission. If L2BEAT shows a gap of hours, the sequencer or prover is paused even if nobody has tweeted yet.
  6. Check the API. GET https://mainnet.zklighter.elliot.ai/api/v1/orderBookDetails returning quickly means the API layer is up; order submission failing while reads succeed points to a sequencer pause.

What a pause actually means for you

Lighter runs a single sequencer that matches orders and a prover that posts proofs to Ethereum. Three kinds of interruption look different:

Three kinds of Lighter interruption: sequencer pause freezes trading and liquidations, proof submission gap delays withdrawals but trading continues, front end outage blocks the app; in all three cases funds remain in the Ethereum contract
How to read a Lighter outage by its symptoms
SymptomWhat is pausedYour positionsYour funds
Orders rejected, chart still moves from external feedsSequencerFrozen at last state; no liquidations, no new fillsSafe in the Ethereum contract
Trading works, withdrawals stuck at "pending"Batch or proof submission to EthereumUnaffectedSafe; withdrawal completes when proofs resume
App unreachable, API downFront end or API serversFrozenSafe

Because every state root is on Ethereum and every balance is reconstructable from blob data, a pause cannot make funds disappear. The risk during a pause is market risk: if you hold a leveraged position and the sequencer halts during a sharp move, you cannot close it until trading resumes, and liquidations are processed when it does. That is the strongest argument for stop-losses placed in advance and modest leverage. See Lighter DEX leverage.

Two things stand out. First, the only user-facing outage was in the first week after public launch, under volume Lighter had never seen. Second, the 2026 anomalies are mostly proof or batch submission gaps, which delay withdrawals by a few hours but do not stop trading; several coincided with upgrades such as the September prover migration. Lighter does not publish post-mortems for these, which is a transparency gap worth noting.

Scheduled maintenance

Lighter announces upgrades in advance on X, Discord and the in-app announcements page. Typical pattern: order placement paused for a few minutes to under an hour, open orders preserved, positions untouched, deposits queued and credited afterward. The April 5, 2026 upgrade is the template. If you run a bot, subscribe to the Telegram API updates channel, where protocol changes that affect signing or market indices are posted first. See Lighter DEX API.

Deposits and withdrawals during an incident

  • Deposits sent during a pause are not lost. They sit in the Ethereum priority queue and credit when the sequencer processes it.
  • Withdrawals requested before a proof gap complete when proofs resume; expect a few hours of delay rather than the usual under-one-hour.
  • Nothing to do on your side. Do not resubmit deposits. Keep the transaction hash in case you need support afterward. Troubleshooting steps: the Lighter DEX deposit guide.

The 14-day escape hatch

If Lighter's operator stops processing the Ethereum priority queue for 14 days, the rollup contract enters escape-hatch ("desert") mode. Any user can then reconstruct their balance from on-chain data, generate a ZK proof of it, and withdraw directly from the Ethereum contract with no help from Lighter. This has never been triggered; the longest recorded gap is 4.5 hours. It is the backstop that turns "the sequencer is down" from a solvency question into a patience question. Mechanics: Lighter DEX whitepaper.

Lighter uptime compared

Hyperliquid, dYdX and other venues have also had multi-hour halts; a single-sequencer rollup is not uniquely fragile, and L2BEAT-style liveness tracking is rarer for competitors, which makes Lighter's record look busier than it is. The fair comparison is: Lighter has had one trading outage in twelve months of public operation, plus proof-submission delays that affected withdrawals, and no loss of funds. See Lighter DEX security for the full risk picture.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lighter DEX down right now? Check @Lighter_xyz on X, the Discord announcements channel and L2BEAT's Lighter liveness section. If reads work but orders fail, the sequencer is paused.

Does Lighter DEX have a status page? No official one as of October 2026. L2BEAT is the closest independent equivalent.

What happens to my position if Lighter goes down? It is frozen at the last state; no fills and no liquidations until trading resumes. Funds remain in the Ethereum contract.

Can I withdraw while Lighter is down? Not until proofs resume. After 14 days of operator inactivity the escape hatch allows direct withdrawal from Ethereum.

How often is Lighter under maintenance? Scheduled upgrades are occasional and short. L2BEAT recorded six multi-hour liveness anomalies between July and October 2026, mostly affecting withdrawals rather than trading.
